The Experience

■ Yizai Jin Cheng (億載金城) Visit Yizai Jin Cheng, a Western-style fortress built by the Qing Dynasty for defense during the 1874 Japanese expedition to Taiwan. The name Yizai Jin Cheng means "a fortress that will last for 100 million years." It was once known as Anping Cannon Fort and Erkunshen Cannon Fort. Today, it is a popular tourist site designated as a national historic site.

Note: During the restoration period of Yizai Jin Cheng, visitors will be guided to Anping Fort. Built by the Dutch East India Company in 1624, Anping Fort is a historical fortress where you can learn about Dutch colonial history and culture, and enjoy its beautiful gardens.

■ Tekki Trading Company (德記洋行) Founded by the British in 1867, Tekki Trading Company is known for its beautiful Western-style architecture and ornate interiors. It is now the Taiwan Development Materials Wax Museum, where you can learn about commercial activities of the time.

■ Anping Tree House (安平樹屋) Anping Tree House is famous for its warehouse covered by banyan trees. It now serves as an exhibition space and café.

■ Wushantou Dam (烏山頭ダム) Completed in 1930 during the Japanese colonial era, Wushantou Dam is still operational today. The dam's water is used for agriculture in the Chianan region. It is also known as Coral Lake due to its intricate shape and is a popular tourist attraction.

■ Yoichi Hatta Memorial Museum (八田与一記念館) Dedicated to Yoichi Hatta, one of the most respected Japanese figures in Taiwan, this museum honors his contributions to Taiwanese agriculture. Hatta, an engineer from the Meiji era, was instrumental in the construction of Wushantou Dam. The museum displays materials related to his achievements and documents from the dam’s construction.
