The Experience
Chihkan Tower (赤崁楼) Built by the Dutch colonists who ruled Taiwan in 1653, Chihkan Tower is a historic fortress. The red-tiled, brick building, surrounded by blue skies and green trees, offers a vivid and picturesque scene. It is the most popular tourist spot in Tainan.
Confucius Temple and Tianhou Temple (祭祀武廟＆天后宮) The Confucius Temple is the oldest and best-preserved ancient temple in Taiwan. Tianhou Temple is known as a sacred place for lovers, where the deity "Yue Xia Lao Ren" (the God of Marriage) is enshrined.
Lin's Department Store (林デパート) Established in 1932 by a Japanese businessman, Lin's Department Store is one of Taiwan’s long-standing department stores. Despite suffering damage during the war, it was designated a city historic site in 1998 and was restored in 2013.
Anping Fort (安平古堡) Anping Fort, built in 1642, is the first fortress in Taiwan. In 1661, Zheng Chenggong reclaimed Taiwan from the Dutch and renamed the area Anping to honor his hometown.
Anping Tree House (安平樹屋) A tourist spot awarded two stars in the Michelin Green Guide, Anping Tree House features an impressive scene of banyan trees intertwining with the ruins.
Confucius Temple and Fucheng Street Stroll (孔子廟と横の府中街散策) The Confucius Temple in Tainan, founded in 1666, is the first Confucius Temple in the country. The temple’s collection of ritual tools and musical instruments used from the early Qing Dynasty to the present is also worth seeing.
Shennong Street Stroll (神農街散策) Shennong Street, with its buildings dating back over 200 years, offers a glimpse into the old charm of Taiwan. The colorful street is lined with renovated cafes and shops, providing a delightful walking experience.
